A large Queensland Bank recognised that is sourcing and category management processes and procedures required a ‘refresh’ to move to ‘best practice’ and to enable target cost reductions. The Bank did not have the in-house expertise or capacity to improve the current processes.

Caliba was engaged to develop the new ‘best practice’ sourcing and contract management procedures, which included:
- Interviewing internal key stakeholders and major vendors to gather information on the current process, identified gaps, and recommended improvements.
- Completing a full review of all company documentation on procurement policy, guidelines, sourcing & category management procedures.
- Preparing a new sourcing and category management framework for steering committee review and approval.
- Rolling out the new procedures, and leading initial sourcing events using the new procedures.
- Mentoring the internal procurement team to transition to the new procedures.
Outcome
Caliba delivered the following outcome for the client:
- A new ‘best practice’ sourcing and category management framework that achieved the objectives of a leaner, and more commercial focused process.
- A Supplier Relationship Management Framework that provided the internal team with processes, tools, and templates to manage on-going supplier performance and compliance.
- Transferred skills to the in-house procurement team on sourcing, negotiations, category management, savings methodology, and supplier relationship management.
- Delivered the first strategic sourcing projects using the new procedures.
